Until 1941 USSR and Nazi were allies or at least something very close
to that name.

----------------------

The statment in contention was that the Nazi's and the Soviets were on the
same side up until June 22, 1941. I say they were on the same side at
the time the Comintern pact was signed. It is certianly arguable that
the Soviets were on the Nazi's side then, but the Nazi's were only
pretending to be on the side of the Soviets. But the fact remains
that they were co-operating.

----------------------

The signign of the non-agression pact came as a complete surprise to the
rest of Europe, simply because of previous German antipathy to communist
Russia, and vice versa.

----------------------

Huh? This was a secret agreement. How can the rest of Europe be
'surprised' at something they did not know existed?
