Cerro Wire LLc in Hartselle, AL still uses HP e3000s. One in Alabama and one in Indiana. A500-200-200 boxes.

Subject: Interesting Error Console Command

I was returning the console back to 20 when I dropped the 2:

:console 0

Logical device numbers must be between 1 and 999. (CIERR 3001)

Looks like they missed something on the last edit of system error messages.

Which defied the knowledge of my system, because I know there are LDEVs higher than 999:

:showdev 4679

LDEV AVAIL OWNERSHIP VOLID DEN ASSOCIATION

 4679 SPOOLED

Granted, most LDEVs above 999 on my system are spoolers. But concievably I could have a J AVAIL device after 1000, if I have more sessions. Concievably possible since we our China users log in during the night, and we have a lot of Chinese employees. Our highest U.S. daytime user topped at LDEV 535 today.

So if I WERE logged onto an LDEV greater than 999, would the CONSOLE command still fail?

The question is rhetorical, no solution required.

As the holiday shopping season approaches, it occurred to me that it might be nice to have a list of companies that still use the HP 3000 ... so we could potentially consider doing business with them.

For example, Sees Candies for chocolates, Houdini Inc (www.houdiniinc.com), Wine Country Gift Baskets (www.winecountrygiftbaskets.com) are using the HP 3000.

Any others?

thanks,

Stan
