The ftp client causing the system aborts on 6.5pp2 was the old, old, OLD 6.0
socksified ftp client mentioned on the second half of
http://jazz.external.hp.com/src/ftp/.

When you run this old client, the banner printed is:

        Socksified File Transfer Protocol (C) Hewlett-Packard 1998

The EOF of the client NMPRG is 3304. This client comes in a relative tarball
and is named SFTP and has an associated NMXL of SFTPXL. It is NOT
FTP.ARPA.SYS, unless you replaced that standard one with the SFTP flavor.
