I think you will find that HP-IB (IEEE-488) was developed by HP to connect
their popular test equipment to control machines (i.e. computers) in the
late 1960's.  It was used on one of the precursors to the HP3000, the
HP2100, and as far as I know, every model of every series of classic HP3000.

My vote is for the Series III as the HP3000 that started the HP3000 dynasty.
