You need to change your profiles associated with the laserjet III's, since
termtype 22 requires status checking firmware (included automatically with
laserjet II's - but not III's, IV's nor V's).

Choose or create a profile using termtype 18 and you should be okay -
assuming you have also chosen the correct speed, parity, etc.
