We have been through this discussion two or three times before.
I was reading the HP Advisor (June '95) and found this topic in
the Q's & Views section.
To paraphrase HP's answer, "With HP CD Extensions for MPE/iX
client/server software, PC users can share the same HP 3000
CD-ROM drive ... The server software is bundled into the MPE/iX
5.0 release ... Users that currently do not receive documentation
on CD-ROM, also should order HP LaserROM/PC retrieval software ..."
Sounds to me like HP is saying that LaserROM/PC, running from a
PC client, can access the CD-ROM drive on the HP 3000. My
memory, which is hardly ever perfect, recalls that we could NOT
do this at the time of the last discussion.
I would like to see this happen, but I'm fearful that my hopes
have been raised prematurely. I have called and asked for the
datasheet -- P/N 5962-0050E if you're interested.
