I like "The Elements of Programming Style" by Kernighan and Plauger ( 
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elements_of_Programming_Style_(book) ). 
Most of the examples are in FORTRAN but the points that they make apply to 
any language.

For C, I would suggest "C Programming Guidelines" by Thomas Plum. For each 
suggested "standard" that he recommends, he gives a justification and 
examples, which help when you are trying to get several programmers to buy 
in to the suggestions.
