In order to reset the internal modem, you need a license to run the
consolan diagnostic.

Assuming you have the appropriate password to enable the license, do the
following:

:hello manager.sys
:sysdiag
consolan pdev=10/4/0 section=2(23)

You will be asked to choose which port to reset. Choose the remote port -
not the console port.

The pdev will change according to which model HP3000 you have. 10/4/0
should be the correct path for your 969.
