Inevitable Illusions : How Mistakes of Reason Rule Our Minds
by Massimo Piattelli-Palmarini
Principal Research Associate for the Center for Cognitive Science at MIT
<http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=047115962X/2187-3414952-942495>
In the Preface, Piattelli-Palmarini illustrates the kind of cognitive
illusions (as opposed to optical illusions) that we face. For example, if
you think you're free of cognitive illusions, answer these questions:
1) Reno is east or west of Los Angeles? (West)
2) Rome is north or south of New York? (North)
3) When you fly south from Detroit, what is the first country you
encounter? (Canada)
4) The arch in St. Louis is higher than taller or taller than higher or
equal? (Equal)

Given the recent crop of wonderful HP3000 success stories (and the recent
interest shown by HP in spreading the word about such HP3000 success
stories), I think this book fits right in. It would be interesting to see
everybody's comments regarding the HP3000 (as inspired by this book) on the
list.
Enjoy!
