Joseph

I configured the discs on a Jamaica box a short while ago.

On the back of your Jamaica box are 8 four bin octal settings the identify each device to the CPU. If the number are not set right you will have a conflict.

So, Get a Flashlight(it's dark back there), a magnifying glass(the switches are small) and a little straitened paper clip to set them.

Note: do not use a black or blue pen to set little white switches, when colored you cannot see them against the black back ground. LOL

Each should have a unique setting not to conflict with each other. Just set the top one if using over sized drive.

When there is no conflict you will see them in mapper.

Give me a call if you get stuck.

Good Luck

The system has two internal disks and a Jamaica cabinet with 4 drives with 4
slots empty.
I just received several 2gb disks that I want to test out/ add 4 to the
Jamaica cabinet.
All drives that are already configured are system_volume_set drives, all
2gb.
I installed 4 2gb drives ran ODE MAPPER to map the drives.
All drives looked ok and gave me the paths.

The path for the externals that were configured already were as follows.

56/40.0 pseudo
56/40.0.0 ldev3
56/40.1 pseudo
56/40.1.0 ldev4
56/40.4 pseudo
56/40.4.0 ldev5
56/40.5 pseudo
56/40.5.0 ldev8

Mapper read all drives and came back for the following paths for the new
drives.

56/40.2.0
56/40.3.0
56/40.6.0
56/40.15.0

After bringing the system up I went into SYSGEN and added the following

56/40.2 pseudo
56/40.2.0 ldev30
56/40.3 pseudo
56/40.3.0 ldev31
56/40.6 pseudo
56/40.6.0 ldev40
56/40.15 pseudo
56/40.15.0 ldev41

I shut the system down and up and had problems with the newly added drives
all coming up with LLIO errors and had an error message of "higher component
configuration failed".

I went back into mapper and noticed that the added drives had different
firmware listed
but I cannot imagine that this is an issue.

Newer firmware for drives 30,31,40,41 were firmware HPM4
Older drives already working are 1,2,3,5,8 were firmware HPM2

I deleted the entries and attempted to configure just one drive to see if it
might be a problem
with a specific drive but I still have the same problem.

NOTE: all the 2gb drives have the same part numbers as well

Any thoughts as to what I am missing?

Thanks
