What file system do you have on hpux.   I have the Veritas file system and do deframents regularly.
I would have to look ad the script for the commands fsadmin???
Of course the files can't be accessed when defragmenting.   Or they won't defragment.
And do let us know the outcome, please.

I am about to run the equivalent of a defrag on our current system (hpux) - if the stats from our test server are correct then the run time for one of our overnight jobs should drop from 1 hour to 16 mins.

Bit of a no brainer !

I frequently defragment systems that are running an High Speed, High Availablity XP arrays.
I think it helps a lot, when needed.

Unless the drives are extremely full and contiguous space is rare, I don't
see the value in frequent defragging. Quarterly? Maybe. Daily? No.

Not sure if defragging an auto raid is useful or even recommended. May not
be a problem to do it, but auto raid takes so much disk allocation out of
the OS's hands it may just ignore the entire process.
