Hi,
> I want to read a file from tape, but don't know anything about it.

On what computer are you trying to read the tape?

If it is an HP 3000, you'll want to use the "RESTORE" command to
restore files from the tape (sort of like doing tar xf).

If it is a computer other than an HP 3000, you have my condolences.
If you don't want to upgrade to a reliable, excellent computer, then
you have a problem. The STORE format is not documented.
Almost any user with an HP 3000 could help you (by restoring the file(s)
onto their HP 3000, and then using tar to create a TAR format tape
for you, or using FTP to move the file to your computer.

As a last resort, our company knows the STORE tape structure, but our
time is tight and it isn't inexpensive.

Good luck,

Stan Sieler
