I've also started using Mozilla 1.6 after getting tired of endless MS patches, and have found no serious problems after 2 weeks.  But it does take measurably longer to open the first time, about 50% on the 1.7 on my desk.  There is an option on the install to allow it to load from memory for faster starts, but I did not take it.  Also, if you are using MS integrated security you'll have to put in your PW manually.  Leaving Mozilla open means you'll only have to put in the PW once.
