Richard:

For several years we have used an interactive Voice Response System (VRS)
from Periphonics Corp. of Bohemia, NY to achieve this purpose. This enables
students to dial-in to our HP3000/928 and undertake their registrations and
receive their grades online. We have 24 ports on the 3K dedicated to this
application; communication from the VRS to the 3K is via VT100 terminal
emulation. The interface with our Image database operates extremely smoothly
as - from the perspective of MPE - the incoming touchtone calls from
students simply represent routine terminal sessions. Response times have not
posed any problem.

We have no horror stories to report. The system functions as was planned;
also, the hardware and software - and support - from Periphonics is first
rate in my opinion.

If I can provide any additional details, please contact me at your convenience.

Regards, Eric Bender
