The Soviet Union's T54/T55 are essentially the same tank, with the
latter being an up-engined and up-gunned version of the former. The
T-55 weighs in at 36 tons and has a maximum speed of about 30MPH. Its
580HP diesel engine consumes about 1 US gallon per mile.

The US Army's M1A1 Abrams tank weighs in at about 55 tons and has a top
speed of about 45MPH. Its 1,500HP Avco Lycoming TURBINE, consumes gets
about .6 miles to the gallon (of diesel, or petrol or jet fuel, it burns
anything.)

The M1 met the T-55 in the first Gulf War and whilst the T-55 can expend
all its ammunition on an M1 and not make a dent, the reverse is not
true. The M1 dispatched the T-55 with single shots, at long range and
on the move. There is even a case (probably not true) of an M1 shooting
at a gaggle of T-55s and knocking out two of them with a single round.

Well, let's pull-out all the stops shall we?
Let's talk about M1-Abrams vs. an old T-55!

Which was the more fuel efficient?
