I understand your confusion. Let me refer you to the Interact
article I wrote -- it appears in the latest Interact magazine.
But to give you a reader's digest answer to your specific
question, HP delivers HP3000 software in a set of tapes:
SLT: System Load Tape (first tape used during your update)
FOS: Fundamental Operating Software (other "freebie" SW)
SUBSYS: The optional HP applications you've purchased
(customized for each customer order), and
POWERPATCH: The integrated set of the latest generally
released patches.
When we create a mainline (major) release, we revise all these
tapes. When we create an Express, we revise only the SUBSYS and
the POWERPATCH tapes. And when we create a Powerpatch, we only
revise the POWERPATCH tape.
The :SHOWME command reports the V.UU.FF of the mainline release,
in this case C.50.00 (the 5.0 Push); it also reports the V.UU.FF
of the MPE Operating System itself (B.79.06).
The installations of Expresses and/or Powerpatches do leave behind
results. Take a look at the following files on your system:
HPSWINFO.PUB.SYS
PATCHAUD.PUB.SYS
Hope that helps.
