Mr Ali says -

I accept that. But what does it say about us that we knew of his deployment
of chemical weaponry and either did nothing or actively supported him. At
the time, I didn't dislike the Iranians that much that using chemical
munitions on them was acceptable. Either using such weaponry is okay or it
isn't. We are signatories to international agreements that it is
unacceptable to do so. I don't believe we can just say it's okay because
they were a "greater enemy". If we do, then we just about legitimise every
argument terrorists put up about their attacks on us.

I say -

I don't know much about what kind of 'chemical weapons' were used in the
Iran-Iraq war. No one has been able to show me much more than Botulism
toxin or bug spray.

I will say at the time Iran had committed acts of war against this
country, and Iraq had not. Iraq at that time was the lesser of the two
evils.
