The task you are facing is relatively staright-forward - but by no means
trivial. Following is a checklist of specific tasks you will need to complete.

Prior to new machine arrival:

1. Upgrade your current 947LX to 5.0. If you jump directly to 5.0 on your
new machine, it will be more difficult to isolate any resulting problems.
Are they related to 5.0 or to your new hardware configuration ? In any major
upgrade, it's almost always best to minimize the number of variables you
need to deal with at the same time. Incidentally, you should upgrade to 5.0
with the latest powerpatch - currently C.50.06.

Upon new machine arrival:

2. Do appropriate backups of your 947 (with the ;DIRECTORY option).

3. On the 939, install, do appropriate i/o configurations, boot up, and
restore the following from your 947 backup:

:file t;dev=7
:restore *t;;directory
:restore *t;comand.pub.sys,nmconfig.pub.sys,nmgrxval.pub.sys;dev=1

I include the file NMGRXVAL because all new installations I've seen have a
NMGRXVAL file which is incorrect. It's contents should be as follows:

PERMYES ON
SY
RDCC
HO
EXIT
KE
EXIT

4. After restoring these files, you need to modify nmconfig.pub.sys
appropriately. At a minimum, your paths for DTSLINK and LANLINK will need to
change to reflect your new paths. If you are unsure of what they are, save
the original NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS and look at it via NMMGR. Other modifications
are dictated by any new DTC's which you have acquired with your new machine.

5. Do the following restore while logged on to MANAGER.SYS:

:file t;dev=7
:restore *t;@[log in to unmask]@[log in to unmask];show=offline;create;olddate;keep

6. Finally, if you have made any modifications to SL.PUB.SYS on the 947 you
will need to re-incorporate these into your new environment.

I have assumed you do not have any user volume sets in your environment. If
so, some adjustments to this checklist need to be made.

I may have omitted some items which do not immediately come to mind, but
this list should get you there quite nicely.
