<Response to "Re: Express 4 power patch (Official answer)">

<start-plug>
Using Unison-Tymlabs TAPES/PLUS Tapes
Management system I can format a standard
physical tape label any which way I desire.
<end-plug>

All that is needed are 1-up sheets of std. continuous
blank tape labels and a "hot" small dot-matrix printer.
If I used every single print space on a standard label I could
easily squeeze over 245 characters(7X35) of pertinent info on
one(1) label(and thats 6 lpi!). There is NO reason at all HP
couldn't include when, where, who, and how a "system tape"
is created and well as the time of the next full moon!
Sorry, just had to vent the last 20 years of "decrypting"
HP tape labels.....

How about something like "SLT C.55.00", "FOS C.55.00", "SUBSYS
C.55.0x"
and "PowerPatch C.55.0x", maybe with "MPE/iX" added, if space
permits.

Don't know where I read this but I believe this is to save paper
and
costs as the only thing that seems to change between
Express/PowerPatch
releases is the "disc space table" that has been moved to the
"Read before
Installing" pages. So, don't throw away the manual after using
it ;-)

Which reminds me of one point that I do not like about the "all
in one"
System Software Maintenance manual... the lots and lots of "goto
statements",
which would be called "spaghetti code" in programming, wouldn't
it?

I wonder if it would be helpful if the manual would be
"converted" to a
little program that is delivered on each PowerPatch media (or
alike) to
be "Restore and Run before Installing". It could prompt the user
with a
few questions about his planned activity, check his disc space,
installed
software and alike and then print a customized step-by-step
extract from
the former "goto goto manual". To be followed without any
goto's.

There could be either an option for brief or extended
instructions or it
could always be brief but with references to a printed manual
with details
on special tasks like backup, configuration, error messages and
alike.

        Lars.
