WRT these extras that are free and a bargain at half that price, one of the
arguments about MS's "monopoly power" is that they told vendors to stop
changing Windows with these extras. The individual I was discussing this
with claimed that HP had to stop adding such enhancements, and when they
did, the number of support calls increased. Perhaps productivity enhancement
like beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The HP Pavilions' problem that made the machines truly unusable (and you
wouldn't believe that anyone would let such software out the door) was the
presence of these extra "hot-linked" keys. The software routines to activate
these keys has to ride on the Windows stack at all times. Whoever put the HP
version together should have been shot.
