(assuming I understand your question):
we used to hav a lot of 3Com (was Bridge) CS2X0, CS2X00 (both 10 ports) and
CS1/LS1 (64 ports) . They worked great (we still use a handfull of the
smaller ones). During Y2K, 3Com recommended some kind of upgrade, so they
might still offer something interesting...

A project here (that I was not involved with, so details are fuzzy) used
Lantronix first, but was not at all happy with them and switched to Moxa
(iirc because of problems after power-failures). Don't know model-numbers
though (but, of course, can find out...).

And, don't forget ;-), there's a company in Palo Alto, CA, that makes boxes
called DTCs... they can be taught to do stuff like this (at least with an
OpenViewDTCManager PC), I use it for debugging of VPlus-applications.
