This is a gentle reminder that including attachments, especially large
encoded binary files, on a list server is not always appreciated. Not only
are there people who still pay by the time they are connected (which is
appreciably longer with these attachments), but it may also cause a mail
failure, meaning the person will not receive it at all anyways (but will
attempt repeatedly). In any case, a MIME encoded attachment may not be
acceptable to someone that has only UUENCODE decoding capabilities.
Finally, for those of us on HP3000-L digest mode, these attachments are
*never* converted anyway - they simply come down as a series of encoded
characters within the message:

As a result, the noise to content ratio becomes exceedingly high.

If you do have a file that you think would be useful in reply, send it
directly to the party. If you think others would like it, you might
consider other possibilities:
1) let others contact you, and you'll mail it directly
2) put it on your own web site
3) put it on a public ftp area (3000-L has one still, don't they Jeff?)

I hope this is acceptable to the majority of the group.

Cheers.
