Denys,
I agree with you. I am always annoyed by such errors, especially since that
one should have been caught by a spell-checker. I simply feel that it is an
overreaction to invalidate or question the authenticity of the message
because of one spelling error. I had not seen one posting in support of the
letter, so I decided to step up. By the way, on the subject of
proofreading: proofing a document will help you catch typing errors. In
this case, I'm sure the author believes "repleat" is the correct spelling of
"replete", so proofing would not detect that error.

Regards,
John

I fully agree with what you say about postings to the list being replete
with spelling, grammatical and syntactical errors, but you should consider
that ESF probably spent quite a bit of time composing her message and going
through it to make it sound erudite and inject poignancy. I would think she
has also been busy posting it to various listservers and other places and
she even took the extra step of making sure you realize that she means it
and that it is all her thoughts by adding the copyright notice at the
bottom. This was not a message written in 5 seconds between two meetings
and several phone calls. Whilst I make every effort to check and recheck
all my posts both for content and presentation, errors still get by me.
She, on the other hand, should not have made that error.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .
