You can find COBOL and Java examples regarding socket
communication on the web page below. I don't recall by
heart, if I also have an example where COBOL and Java
talk to each other, but it is possible. I once played
with a trial version of QSDK from www.qss.com (a handy
library for COBOL network programming) and because I
did not want to use their Visual Basic client example,
I wrote an equivalent thing in Java. It is not on my
web page, but I can dig it up, if you like.

Regarding SAP... What interfaces or protocols does SAP
offer/use? Someone once mentioned CORBA in this regard.
You mentioned MQ Series. Both are possible on the 3000
as far as I understand. Might be an interesting task to
create a little example.
