Quite a few people have asked me (via private messages) a question whose
answer might interest other HP3000-L members:
>Before Christmas, I got a message saying that you (Adager?) were about to
>announce something that would be ground shaking news. I haven't seen anything
>come by on the list. It this announcement still pending?
If my memory serves me right, I remember having said something along the
lines of a "surprise" (nothing even closely resembling "ground shaking
news" :-)
I you received your January 1996 issue of Interact Magazine, check the 4th
cover. Even if you didn't, point your World-Wide-Web Browser to:
http://www.adager.com
You'll find a lot of interesting material there. More important than the
current material, though, is the inevitable trend: My goal is to provide
as much Adager support as possible via the Web. What you see now is just
the beginning.
The paradigm shift is pretty fundamental. Up to now, the method has been
to "print and distribute." For instance, consider the professionally
printed copies of "Your Adager Guide" that we provide to all of our
customers.
Today, thanks to the Web, we also offer the state-of-the-art method: to
"distribute and print." For instance, you can visit Adager's
World-Wide-Web site right now and download your very own copy of the very
latest version of "Your Adager Guide," either in standard-format HTML or in
richly formated PDF (portable-document format, the standard for Adobe
Acrobat, which is being integrated into the Netscape browser as I type this
note; you can also use Adobe Acrobat Reader as a helper application in
older versions of Netscape as well as in any browser that supports helper
applications). If you have a Laser printer with duplex printing and use
Nekoosa paper, you will get outstanding quality (particularly if you choose
the PDF version).
And so it goes. I just touched on printing. Imagine the countless other
possibilities!
Is this good enough as a surprise? I'm just following the footsteps that
Eric Schubert (of Notre Dame fame) began leaving in cyberspace with his
far-sighted cliend/server applications using HTML and the HP3000.
Have fun and share your comments with me.
