The I/O config is the easy part (craig's suggestions are good).

The issue of No-restore/reload depends upon the volume set definition.
A) If the MOD20 contains a complete MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET then a
simple move may be in order.
B) If the MOD20 contains a complete 'user/private' volume set then
something like 'restore ;;directory' will be required to "link" the
groups and accounts in that volume set back to the system set on the
969.
C) If the MOD20 contains a partial volume set of any kind -- a
re-load/reinstall will be required. . .

Really only "A" should be attempted by someone without lots & lots of
MPE & 3000 experience.

Jim

Subject: Re: [HP3000-L] Switching from Series 928RX to Series 969/200

Greg,

  It can be done...

First you will need to find the boot drive.

One trick would be to hook up the mod20 (with two channels, I
presume).

Then boot the HP3K, at the ISL? prompt do an SEA (for search)... that
should help locate the boot path.

  Then START NORECOVERY SINGLE-DISC

Go into SYSGEN -> IO -> and change the paths for the other drives...
hopefully you have less than 8.

It shouldn't be to difficult, but if it were easy, you wouldn't be
making the big bucks.

My Customer has Series 928RX (no internal disk drives) connected to
MOD 20 Disk array.
He would like to switch his box to Series 969/200 - in other word, he
wants to connect the MOD20 disk array to Series 969/200.?
The question is that 928RX path is 56/....? yet 969/200 path is 10/...
(the question might be dumb, but my boss is on vacation and I dont know
what to reply to the customer)

Can he simply plug MOD 20 disk array, change the primary path and move
on (of course he understands that he might need to make adjustments via
NMMGR and SYSGEN.? However, he does not want to start from scratch
(START with NEW?SYSTEM from 969 FOS tape, create all the accounts using
BULDJOB and than restore all the accounts)... does he have a choice?

Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.

Thanks a million in advance
David Raschka
