April 19 issue of COMPUTERWORLD, page 89;
"Technology Opinion" piece by Frank Hayes. In it he sez:
"HP's big move is a Java compiler that will generate stand-
alone native code, so HP-UX users won't need a Java
engine at all."
While I guess talk about native Java compilers has been
going on for a couple years, the above (if true) is the first
definitive statement to that effect for an HP platform that I
recall seeing (but I've been busy lately; can't claim to have
kept up with all the latest info; it would have been easy for
me to miss previous details).
Obvious next questions:
(1) If above = TRUE, what are odds MPE/iX will get same ??
(2) If MPE/iX gets same, guesses on how long ??
SIDEBAR: In same edition of CW: Real nice HP 3000 ad on
pages 44-45.... I take back all the bad things I've said in days
gone by about HP marketing of the 3000... oops..: well, a lot
of things, anyway...: They still don't mention Image/SQL....
but I'll try not to do the grinch thing, and give them points for
doing pretty good..... :-)
