The agreement started out as a concise list of terms written by I&I
engineers, and was then transformed by a lawyer into the legalese you see.
What can I say? ;-)

The intent of the machine is to help spur the invention of new MPE apps, and
we do not want to limit the types of apps that may be created.

I participated in the final conference call with the lawyer and questioned
the clause Gavin quotes. The intent of that clause is to prevent you from
directly using the machine to conduct business, i.e. setting up an
e-commerce web site using WebWise on that machine and selling stuff, or
using Sendmail on that machine to do commercial mailings, etc.

The clause does not prohibit you from developing business software on the
machine which you then transfer to your own machine and conduct business
from your own machine by executing that software or reselling that software
to other people. I asked the lawyer that directly, and she said right, the
clause does not prohibit this.

This machine does not replace any current developer partner programs. If
you feel more comfortable with the terms of those programs, then we welcome
your participation via that avenue.

Well, it IS a shared system, so if privacy is important, please participate
in the traditional partner programs to purchase your own machine.

Accounts are created with ACCESS=(R,W,A,L,X:AC), and the default umask set
by /etc/profile is 007. So your accounts will mostly default to being
private, and with care on your part will remain private.
