It's been awhile since I've worked on the HP, but I vaguely remember having this problem. If you want to delete the spool file I think you can try 'deleteio' on the spool file ( I think that is the command). I think that may free up the spool file.

Just be sure all other sessions and jobs have logged off first.
I have read too many memory dumps where FSCHECK hung the system.
