I had an interesting conversation with my HP contract person today. Now
that our 967 is a year old, the warranty has expired, and we needed to
put a maintenance contract in place. To make things simple, I wanted to
make our other HP contacts run for the same annual period.

The other two contacts are annual with different coverage parameters.
No big deal, right? Just cancel the old contracts the day before the
new contract is to take effect and reissue under the same terms.

Well that's not the way the program (software) works. It breaks the
annual contract into 12 equal parts. The daily rate is calculated by
dividing the monthly amount by the number of days in the month. Well,
since I wanted to do this in February (only 28 days), my daily rate was
artificailly inflated.

HP's first response was "We can't change the program -- that's the way
it was designed." Fortunately I was able to resolve the issue with a
more senior person.

So, if any of you are planning to adjust your contracts, be sure you do
it in a month with 31 days. You'll get a much more favorable rate!

Regards,
