Bill,

When are you seeing this error?  If you're getting some kind
of 'duplicate volume mounted' message when you boot up after the
install, you can probably ignore it.

Have you tried adding the disks to a volume set with volutil?

I might suggest adding the devs other than dev1 to a private volume
and seeing if you can write a file or files to the volume.  Then you
can scratch the volume and add them to the correct volume sets as
needed.
