Gary,

You probably do not have the /usr/local subdirectory already
present on your system, so attempting to create the link that
is logically "lower" than something that doesn't exist gives the
error. Try the following:

. Log on as MANAGER.SYS
. Enter the POSIX shell (run sh.hpbin.sys;info="-L")
. Change to the usr subdirectory (cd /usr)
. Create the local subdirectory (mkdir local)
. Allow anyone to full privileges to it (chmod 777 local)

You may/may not want this subdirectory "opened up" in
regards to it's security, but in general, other applications
that will make use of this location will create there own
subdirectories (or links to other locations like Samba)
so their security can be controlled at their own level
(personal preference).

Go ahead and try the install again.

Michael L Gueterman

Subject: [HP3000-L] Samba Installation Problem

I am trying to install Samba 0.7. I get as far streaming the
SETUPJ.PUB.SAMBA jobstream, but the jobstream fails on the NEWLINK
command.

newlink /usr/local/samba , /SAMBA/PUB

A component of the pathname "usr/local/samba" does not exist. (CIERR
9039)

What can I do to get past this statement, I've tried all kinds of
options.

Please reply to the list or to [log in to unmask]

Thanks Gary Pastor
