Matthew,
What you are describing is changing the HOMEVS, not the ONVS.  Yes, you
can change HOMEVS any time, because it simply changes a directory entry
in the system directory.  The ONVS parameter actually creates the group
on the target volume set, which can't be done with ALTGROUP.  If you
don't believe me, try it.  

BTDT once.  Once I found it didn't work, I did it the right way.  ;-)

I'm sorry to say John, you're wrong. How do you think you get files in
the PUB
group of an account to reside on a private volume set? Creating the
account
automatically creates the PUB group, which you must then use the
ALTGROUP
command to specify it's home volume set is something other than the
system
volume set, if that is what you wish.
