Jens,

Great to have you in on this, you seem to have things
going pretty well!

In my testing for Andreas, I used 'guest ok = no' which
is an alias for 'public'. I have guest access allowed
globally, but disallowed it for that specific session.
I'm defaulting to security=share, allowing Samba to
act as the master browser, and do not have a PDC
for this setup. I'm unsure how Andreas was setup
in this regard, but I would assume that most 3000 shops
would probably start off this way, and as NT systems
start coming in, move to a setup more typical of how
you describe yours.
The username mapping features do seem to work out well,
but in my quick testing (again NT only, I'll look at WIN95
later on today if I get a moment) I've been unable to get
Samba to correctly accept the username from the client.
It seems to want to use the defaults (if available), or an
explicit username parameter (if present). This may not
be an issue in your setup since you have a PDC on the
LAN (I'm just guessing here).
Glad to hear you've setup the printing configs and have it
working!! As far as I know, your the first to get it going.
The few people I talked to at IPROF that were testing
Samba were mainly working with SMBD, and a few with
NMBD.

Michael,

Have you tried setting "public = no". You can do this on a
service-by-services basis or on a global basis. You will most
definitely always verify the guest user unless your system is setup
correctly.

Global basis...
        [global]
                public=no

Service-by-service basis...
        [my service]
                public=no

Give it a bash, if you have specific question I should be able to help
you.

For your information I have a Samba 0.5 Server running on MPE/ix 5.5. I
run my server in user authentication level using Windows NT domain
controllers for password authentication. I also make heavy use of WINS.
I have also setup username maps that allow PC username to MPE username
mappings. I have also managed to share printers on the hp3000
successfully.
