This error is a consequence of QUAD, or any HP editor for that matter, of
determining if a file is numbered or unnumbered by reading the first few
records of the file (since that attribute is NOT recorded anywhere in the
file label).

I'm pretty sure that your file 'EMASROLL' has decimal digits at the right
most position of each record. Quad reads a few records, flags the file as
numbered based on the data content and then 'realizes' that the 'record
numbers' are out of sequence and issues the reported error.

Just text in the file as unnumbered 'Text EMASROLL:U' and you'll be O.K.

I am receiving the following errors in Quad Edit:

  Numbered keep to text file EMASROLL.SAME.PROD
  Purge old text file? Y
  Read error on text file QUADTEXT
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
  Error in procedure QKGETREC
  Line numbers out of sequence on file
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I get this error each time I add or modify a few lines. I moved the file to a
different disk drive, copied it to another file and renumbered it.

Any suggestions what would be causing this and how to correct it?

Regards,
