Is this true for anyone else, or am I just lucky?

On the first invocation of 'ls -l' (in the POSIX shell under 5.0), the
permissions for the first file are displayed, then the cursor just sits
there for over *30* seconds before continuing with the rest of the display.
After this first invocation, response time is fine.

The environment is such that I *may* be the only one using the POSIX shell.

Is this a known feature?
