This is a problem with QUIZ on 5.5 that can be easily solved.

Build a file PR that contains the word EXIT and place it
in the same group with your dictionary. Apparently, QUIZ
is looking to read something from this file and if it is
missing the READ was redirected to $ST DIN, hence the need
for the extra Carriage Return.
