Even though I am no longer in the software business, I can offer
a defense of the tiered software pricing scheme. It's done to make
complex products available across a extremely varied product line.
It's also done because HP set the standard originally, and many
companies felt they had to "toe the line".

We've had long dialogue about this issue over the last 2-3 years
on this list. People who don't like the process will never like
the process. Vendors who use the process will likely never stop.

The bottom line is that if you as a consumer don't like the practice,
don't buy the software. (Free market economy, etc...)
