I agree strongly with the need for sql*net, OCI and the pro* compiler
support, as well as the Gateway. This provides the integration of a e3000
with an Oracle server on any platform.
If sql*net and the compiler (OCI, pro*, the jsql I think it is) support
(i.e. "client" access) were available for the e3000 at a reasonable price,
we'd seriously consider purchasing it for our e3000 system, but we don't
need the database itself (and it's cost) nor does the Gateway fit our
needs. Most of our primary applications on on the e3000 using Image, but
we need to update an Oracle database on a 9000, so the Gateway won't help.
The question is does the e3000 really need the database server (or other
Oracle servers) - this is have more questions about.
