Well, I don't know anything about FTP, since I'm *still* on 4.0 (don't
tell HP). However, the file type VAM indicates a message file, and I
believe message files are still in compatibility mode. Perhaps CM files
cannot be accessed using the long mapped option, which is perhaps a FTP
default. I know, lots of perhapses. In any event, I'm not sure of the
value of copying a message file, since (in most cases) reading these
destroys their contents ...
