The reason is two-fold. You have a poor backup program. The Ultrium is
much faster than the disk array (Autoraid box). What you need to do is to
get a proper HP-UX backup program and then you will need to do some tests
to find out how fast the data can be read from the array. You neglected to
mention exactly how the Autoraid is connected to the system.

I can surely help you with all this, contact me directly.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

Subject: Backup Performance problem on HP-UX machine.

Dear All,

I have one HP-9000 L-Class 3000 server with ver 11.00, with RAM 1 G.B and
one Autoraid Box. I have connected one Ultirum-230 tape drive which can
store 200 GB data in one tape. The tape performance as per HP is 30 MB per
sec.

If I am using tar command for backup I am getting 5 MB per second
performance.
If I am using dd command then I am getting 3 MB per per seconds.

Tape drive is connected on separate controller and connected with Ultra-2
SCSI controller.

Also I have 2 autoraid box and cluster also.

Why I am getting this much poor performance.

With Warm Regards

Harpreet Singh Chana
