I believe that I know the man who created the first political compass quiz.
I'll see if I can get a http: reference for it.  These quizzes have been
around for a while and have morf'd a bit in various ways (slanted perhaps by the
quiz producer?).

You are quite correct about the nature of the questions.  My recollection is
of questions with clear differences in the potential answers and some level of
consistency in how like minded people would answer them.
