Granted Jim and Roy have played important roles in the continued growth
of the HP3000. However, there are a great number of other, dedicated
individuals in CSY who may not be as well known, but who also have been
instrumental in what has happened the last several years. It is this
depth of commitment and dedication within CSY which has made a difference
and helped fuel this growth.

It has been interesting to see how quickly the new/returning people to
CSY have become a part of the same *team* and embraced this way of
business. Because two individuals are moving on to new challenges,
the culture they helped establish and nurture is simply not going away.
It's much bigger than simply these 2 people and I can't see Harry Sterling
steering the division away from what has been one of the building blocks
of their successful growth.

As we know, Jim has been in CSY the longest of the 2, and was instrumental
in changing the relationship between HP and the user community after the
Boston Tea Party. He worked hard with a number of key players in the user
community and through this effort, helped refocus HP's energies on what was
really important...communicating and listening with the end-users, in order
for CSY to determine/do the right thing. And as we know, when the customer
gets what they need, the business that supplies that solution grows as a
part of that success. The working model applying this principal that Jim
helped established in CSY has become widely recognized and copied by other
parts of the company. I've even heard Lew Platt comment about CSY sharing
their model with other divisions.

Given HP's desire to be successful in this new venture, I can't think of
any better individuals to help lead this effort. This also gives Jim an
opportunity to apply some of the training he worked so long and hard on
recently.

Let's also not forget that when OpenSkies is successful, so is
CSY and the HP3000. So instead of looking at this as a loss to CSY, one
should view this as a very positive move to further the success of CSY
through OpenSkies, making both even more successful in expanding the use
of the HP3000 business in another key area.
