Sooo that's why we're having all these performance problems!  We're running
Probe/xl continously, so we can see what's happening to our system
at anytime. Probe/xl itself consistently uses > 10% of CPU! (When we start
to run this program, the whole HP3000/949 freezes for more than 5 minutes
and CPU overhead goes up to > 50%, then normalizes). wheeewwww!
