Hi, Cortlandt.

| Is this a really an issue that SIG Consult wants to pursue? It does

Huh? I don't understand what this is about. Perhaps I missed something,
but my understanding is that HP is only maintaining a list of vendor
products which are available at a discount for the 918/DX systems so that
developers who get one can be made aware of the deals available. And I have
no idea what SigConsult has to do with this other than being a group who
might benefit most from all this.

|As for details:
....
|o Adager - I was amused to note that Bradmark, not to be outdone, offered
|theirs for no cost. All this after Alfredo's $450 offering really helped
|get HPs attention for the idea in the first place.

Perhaps Bradmark felt that they needed to undercut Adager's price to be
competitive. In both cases, I suspect that they want developers of software
applications to be familiar with their software so they will recommend (or
even require) their customers buy it (at the usual price). Besides, nothing
is stopping Adager from adjust their price if they feel it's appropriate.

|o Lund - for a development system why?

Same argument as to why Adager and Bradmark would want developers to use it.
Plus Lund's Developers Toolbox is very useful. I personally view one of the
tools in it (AVATAR) to be the most useful tool I have available for
developing RoadRunner for MPE after the C/iX compiler, the System
Debugger and perhaps my editor of choice, Voodoo.

|o Robelle - I know it's 'standard' but if I had to I would use something
|else (Quad, Fascade?, Wispertech).

Same as Adager et al.

| Maybe we should ask for HP's full screen editor on the 918/DX. This
|makes alot of sense - Jeff Vance?

If you mean HPEDIT, which happens to be what was left of Voodoo after HP
made it a product, then my experience is that it's a poor choice when
compared to Qedit or Quad, or Voodoo. Since Voodoo *was* free for those who
could get hold of it, and Quad *is* free, then I suspect many will go with
that.

It seems a major source of confusion is the impression that all the vendor
software is being bundled with the 918/DX. It's my understanding that only
the HP development software listed is bundled and that everything else is
optional. The cost (if any) will be paid on top of the $7000 bundled price
to whomever the software is coming from.
