I use the following in MPEX with a command file called SHOWERRS:
RUN MPEX.PUB.VESOFT;PARM=1;INFO="SHOWOUT @[log in to unmask]@(SPOOL.JOBABORTED)"
It seems to catch most typical job abort situations.
