I can confirm that for MASTER datasets, Image logs the key value for all
adds/changes/deletes; for DETAIL datasets, it logs the primary key value
(which doesn't do much good) as well as the record number of the entry.
Since detail key values are not necessarily unique, to actually FIND the
record later you need to retrieve the record by it's record number. [I can
vouch for this as I've written apps that mirror image databases using only
image logs]
 
DDX expansions won't affect the record numbers, but "DETPACKING" (or any
other operation that moves/reorders records in the dataset) will.
