This will sound really stupid, and it probably is, but it works...

Physically power off the sputtering printer.  Wait five seconds or so.
Turn it back on.  No more duplicates (for awhile).

These things *somehow* get stuck so the 3000 thinks the print failed,
and the only way to clear it is to physically power-cycle the printer
(yes the printer, not the 3000 :-) ).
