OK, the "HP DTC Cabling and Racking Guide" implies this is not possible. At
least in so far as it does not list the pin configuration to do this.

There is a pin configuration for "DTC DB25 to Modem DB25" but none for "DTC
RJ45 to Modem DB25".

Does anyone have any experience with this? Can anyone confirm the manual's
lack of these connections really means it can not be done? Do I need to
acquire a DTC DB25 distribution box (what I sometimes hear referred to as a
"POD")?

Tim,

You'll probably have to change the transmit and receive lines to connect to
a modem and if your modem uses the full set of modem control signals you'll
want to check DTR, DSR, RTS, CTS, and CD.

You can find the pinouts for various DTCs in the "HP DTC Cabling and
Racking Guide" at http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/5961-6410.pdf.  Page number
81 has the RJ45 pinouts and I think there may be a complete wiring diagram
for a DTC to Modem cable.
