regarding DCE (sorry, I neglected to note the citation - Yahoo "OSF DCE").

The following is a brief synopsis.35_3Nov199517:02:[log in to unmask]

Lets take a little different approach to the backup situation. I'm assuming
that your 4 hour limit is system unavailability (downtime).

The backup media is not as critical as the backup method in this
case.

The first recommendation is to use a backup product that supports
on-line backup. We backed up 300Gb of disk daily at my old location
with no more than 45 minutes of downtime for an application using
Turbo-Store/iX On-Line. With 5.5 this 45 minute sync period is
removed and Turbo-Store/iX supports true on-line ...no downtime.

If databases are involved and you use online backup be sure to provide
adequate disk space for the transaction manager log files.

The second recommendation, if not implemented, is to move to user
volumes (volume management). Perform you backups by volume sets
and if multiple data bases are involved you breakup your backup to
have multiple backups running at the same time.

If cost is no object the multiple IBM tapes provide the highest performance
at the highest price where DAT is the cheapest and the slowest. With the
online approach it may not matter. By the way, the new version of
Turbo-Store with 5.5 will support backup to disk which could then be
stored to other media.

I don't see the 100Gb and 4 hours as being a problem.
